THE CHEMICALS IN THE COLOUR OF OUR CLOTHES

This photo-reportage is an expansion of my project ‘The Colour of a Clean Ocean”, focussed on the chemicals in the colour of our clothes. The textile dyeing industry is very pollution for the environment, but it also affects our health directly.  Contact with dyed synthetics triggers allergic reactions, skin irritation, rashes and it even increases the risk of cancer.  This reportage including the film is meant to be a conversation piece. I wanted to create a sort of weird feeling for the viewer and let them ask questions, like “Why would you cover yourself in paint? And isn’t that harmful for your skin?”. The answer to this is that we actually all do this every day by putting on our colourful clothes which contains many injurious chemicals.
